Post ‘Makers Market’Review

It went pretty much as I thought it would, it was very hot and the hoped for crowds were not crowds but just a few after church groups. I had my umbrella so I had shade most of the time and did manage to sell $150 worth of my “stuff”. But I only sold one oval canvas to a young girl who bought it for her big sister. That is what I expected, my enthusiasm for the ovals has never been great but I have a new idea for them.

The friend that made the blocks to show the ovals has a business selliing religious note cards and other similar items. I’m thinking to add some words to these ovals and he may be able to add it to his inventory. It’s a thought. I need to find a nice font, people like words on stuff.

By the way, all my abstract paintings sold but I’d only brought 3 with me thinking there would be no interest, I should have brought everything I had, even those I pounded onto my studio door!

About my internet, I’ve decided to almost always use my hot spot on my Ipad, right now I’m on my computer and can use wifi but I can’t on my ipad, almost never.

I tend to use my ipad more than my computer, last night I was listening to a Wondrium class ‘Religions of the World’ and fell asleep.(it was not the classes fault I fell asleep)So I used up all my data but that’s unusual and I was tired. I’m going back to see what I missed. I’m enjoying Wondrium, there are so many different topics, and I can download some to watch without internet connection. I don’t miss TV at all, except it would be nice to watch them on a larger screen. I haven’t watch Netflexs since I broke my TV, I should cancel it and just learn new stuff.

The other day I took about 100 selfies trying to find a new one for my Kate Othon website. It’s not so easy anymore to find a pic I want to share. I’ve lost a bit of weight(all good) so my face is thinner and I’ve not tried to avoid the sun so I’m wrinkled and dry. Such is the vanity of an old woman! Most of my friends and family have grown older along with me but they haven’t lived in the desert for the past 3 years and it makes a difference. Here is one that looks like me now at 78 years old. I like this one, the color looks good, I have red curtains so that made the skin tones pinker but the background is not great to use on my site but when it’s small like this I can use it, I look a little pensive, these glasses are those that block the blue light cheap progressives I love!

That website is a mess but my daughter Marissa is going to help me fix it. I can do it but i don’t know how to make it look like I want it to look.Sorry this post is rambling on without much content. I will try harder to share more interesting posts in the future. Wondrium has classes on writing I could try, I’m taking a class on the media and all the different ways to use socal networking but I’m not too interested in joining all those options any more.Too much trouble at this point to try to keep up.

ciao!

WhoooHooo

Excited by my first sale from the Grape Gallery!

I almost threw the envelope away thinking it was something I had no interest in, something about a spa. Then I remembered that Pelican Spa is the name of Grape Studio company, I’d gotten a notice from this same company with a $15 check for a couple tiles that were sold a week ago. I’d taken the trash out already when this light came on in my head and I retrieved the trash and found a check for $112 for the sale of a painting. The trash was picked up today so if I had not realized my error in time I would not have known I had a sale. Funny thing, I’m not sure which of the paintings sold, they were named, this one called Cheer-1 I think it must be this painting. What a pleasure to know it will hang in someones home.

I gave away two paintings to a couple that was leaving the park to live in a different state where they bought a home, they were very generous to me, they gave me that beautiful leather chair I have in my studio, a step that has helped me to safely step up into my RV, and a fence for Charley. Good people.

Time for me to start painting seriously, I’ve been stuck on doing much of the same style, abstract stuff and sent them to family and some gifted in the park, I think I am over it now.

Check out that painting in black and white, That is a color modification of a painting by my camera setting on noir, I’d tried to over paint a painting in black and white but was not successful .

I was painting using chalk paint, very interesting, vibrant colors flat!

These are the other paintings at the gallery.

Wall tiles with alcohol inks, uncontrolled

These are my favorites so far but I don’t control the ink yet, impossible to make two the same

they may overwhelm unless I learn to lighten the inks.!7

I’m just learning how to use the inks, it’s fun but I don’t want them to be too dark. I’ll be using them on my bathroom wall and at my entry to RV

Pure Playfulness.

Actually I don’t really like them, not my best idea, some I do like, maybe about 10 of them I like, but I don’t see them looking good all together on the wall.

hmmmm, rethinking here.

Well Darn it anyway

I’d hope to be able to sell my art somewhere but I am not having any luck finding a venue.

Los Cruces is out because I don’t live in the right county and the farmers market here doesn’t start until next month and they may already have as many arts and crafts allowed vs farmers items.

So now I have my paintings in frames ready to sell and no venue until Spring. There may be more opportunity then.

I guess I’ll just keep painting and maybe add note cards here one of these days, amazing I can keep myself busy all day long doing the same things over and over without much progress in anything attempted.

I’ll go to town tomorrow to find out what is going on in the park because I saw people selling stuff there a few weeks ago. I’ll see if there is space for me at a shop where you rent a cubicle , similar to what my sister Shar and I did for a while in RIchardson, we didn’t do well there, hope this place is busier, their location is good and I always see people in there when I’ve been there, I suspect they are fully staffed and cubicles full. I need to go to town anyway because I have nothing to snack on, no chocolate no ice cream nothing sweet which was the plan when I shopped last! I bought snacks for Charley and not me. He is getting a little chubby so I need to keep him slim and trim.

I have new news but I’ll put it in a new post….excited!

My Studio!

I’m sitting in my almost finished studio and I’m so darn pleased! The latest additions were my front step made for me by my acupuncture friend (who is doing very well), and my lights that will even keep the studio warm during cold winter days, no need for a heater! Thanks to Dan they even work!

My studio is well supplied with paint and much of the stuff an artist needs so now I’ll see if I am an artist or just a wannabe artist I’m taking another online class that teaches me so many techniques and simple color mixing that I know nothing about.

It froze a couple nights, not all my plants look like they’ll survive. darn.

People say I should sell my RV and live in here! No, but now I have places for everything I love to do. (eat sleep and goof around) The simple life style actually costs a bit but now I think I have everything I need and even what I want. ( but I’d love a bathtub!)

Charley and I plan to go to VA for Thanksgiving, I don’t have a hook up to tow my car yet so (yeah that’s the next thing I’ll need) we will mosey along in the tiny car despite my son’s belief that it doesn’t belong on the highways. PooPoo I’ve done fine on highways.

76 year old Woman, Climbing a ladder doing it for Myself

I was able to finish the ceiling myself, Frank didn’t show and I was tired of waiting so I got up that ladder and was able to add the insulation and cover with either cardboard or those foam display boards, only problem was getting around the ceiling fan because I couldn’t get between the fan leaves they are too close together so that area doesn’t look great. It may not be the best job but I think it’s okay, my AC works hard but 100 degrees is not a fair measure of its worth, I think when it cools down it will be fine. I spent about 4 hours in there yesterday but by afternoon it was pretty warm so I moved to the RV. Being concerned about my electric usage I generally only use the AC in either the RV or the studio, not both at once until I have a better understanding of how much my electric bill will be this month. I would have liked to get a photo of me on the ladder all sweaty and dirty, the loft was dusty and I cleaned it with my pants! That was the easiest part to finish, I felt like a painter on my back stapling the ceiling with the barrier. I did good, I’m happy with the results, excited to get painting again!.

I did some interesting site seeing travel on Friday, I’ll make a separate post on Silver City and the exciting ride home.

One step closer………

I’ve enjoyed putting this little building together, first the radiant barrier (more information on that here http://radiant barrier ) Then thinking of an inexpensive way to improve insulation I bought super large boxes from Uhaul and stapled them over the barrier. I covered each end wall with fabric. I’ll need some help to finish the ceiling because the staple gun needs to be pushed in a certain way to make the connection and it was too hard for me, not safe I’ll try to find Frank. I need to find more cardboard too, and maybe some more white fiber board like what I used for the photo board. some white walls would make the room lighter feeling, cleaner.

I may put the barrier inside my RV cubby walls and am using it on my windows to block the heat. until it cools down a bit…it’s kind of like living in a dark cave but nice.

Instead of $ 500+ to insulate the building I spent about $130.00 plus cardboard boxes and still have about half left over to share or sell. Do you think this will work? I’m not sure but am hopeful, hard to judge as I’ve not finished the ceiling. This heat is algo espantoso! but I think it would have been impossible to work in there as I have been with only the fan working. The AC works noisily and sometimes shouts and scares me so I have to turn it off quickly before it ruines itself, needs some servicing, I’ll ask Frank to look at it.
