I thought I’d get an inexpensive learner guitar and hopefully learn a new brain saving technique.
Whenever I start messing around with the guitar Charley begs for attention, attention and a belly rub. He throws himself in my lap, really it’s like he does a back flip bottoms up.
He doesn’t like it when I’m busy on my computer or reading either.
He’s spoiled and has doubled his arrival wight from 12 pounds to 24 pounds! He’s beautiful and generally well behaved.
He is happy to stay home alone because he hates going in the car, he shakes from the time we go til the time we get back. So now I leave him home with a treat.
He knows when I get my keys and put on my shoes I’m going in the car. He does very well home alone now, I don’t need to use that supersonic noise thing to keep him from barking, neighbors report he has not been barking, it’s because he’s happy not to go with me in the car.
Learning the guitar is not so easy, not easy at all! It looks easy and cool just strumming and humming but so far I can’t even remember the g string. Memory, that is the challenge I’m working on, it’s a bitch!
It’s been cold in Caballo but the afternoons are briskly pleasant. I am now a resident of New Mexico. I like it here. I should get my new drivers license and plates soon. It’s only taken me 2 visits to the DMV so far needing birth certifcate, marriage license translated insurance info and more but it was in the nicest DMV I’ve ever been in, no waiting efficient and a clean organized process. A far cry from my experience in TX. Small towns are great and almost no traffic!
I planted a few perennials today, hopeful for a splendid ‘Spring. I lost a few plants to frost even though they were in my studio, very sad and sorry my beautiful succulents collection froze.
We could be in the 70’s this week and there is no talk about the wind.
I’m going to Las Cruces, an hour away, where the shopping is much improved from where I am. I’m thinking home depot! I’m getting another box of tiles to finish that ugly bathroom wall and more white paint plus try to match the green paint to touch up or even give another coat of paint to some areas that don’t look fresh. From there I’ll hit a target and wander a bit,
I’m going there maybe this week, or even tomorrow, I saw a video of the City of Rocks, it looks fascinating and it’s less than a 100 miles from here. I’ll take some photos to add here.
Not taking GIGI this trip just Babe, I need to learn a few things about her, I haven’t even put gas in yet but there’s something I must be doing something wrong, when I go to lock her it sound like it locks but the door opens and I’ve had to leave her open when I went to Walmart, need to see what I’m doing wrong, it’s probably something I’m not doing but really how complicated can it be to lock the door???
I may go by my self or maybe with a friend. Either way I need to get active, this weather and my own lazy-ness has kept me in an inert state for too long. I’m boring myself. This annoying thing on my computer, my phone and my ipad are telling me how much time I spend on the internet, like it matters. It doesn’t matter and I could just remove it, but it tells me I should get out of my head and outdoors where real life happens,
I was talking with my friend Becca yesterday about art and opportunities here in this area, and found out that there is a weekly flea market in T or C ( Truth or Consequences NM). Anyone can set up a table for $5 and sell whatever. A good way to learn about the community and offer our skills. on a regular basis. No need for the trappings of yesteryear in Plano TX that turned out to be so expensive and difficult. I have the remains of several projects that would be nice to sell, my pursettas, maybe a rock or two some prints. Of course at events like this you don’t expect to be able to sell anything for much more than 5-10$$, or less, but might be fun to do it together with my Minnesota pal Becca. She is the information seeker, she knows everyone here and keeps me up to date of the comings and goings in the park. She makes beautiful silk scarves and jewelry that she wouldn’t mind selling. I passed by the flea market last Saturday but didn’t stop to see what was what, there were plenty of cars parked around the site and a small crowd of people shopping. I should have stopped but didn’t I will this Saturday & Sunday.
Did I tell you that my neighbor Robert has moved to T or C? He got a great offer to work in one of the best hot springs hotels( river bend) in town. Alas. He will be missed but he says he’ll come back now and again to help me with this or that, I hope he does because I still need help with this and that. We may do some caulking today on the outside of GIGI. My babe needs a face lifting bad to match her lovey interior (smile)
I’ve hardly gone anywhere yet in my Smart Babe, I have so much to do here, painting, sewing my privacy covers for the cab and more painting. As my living space includes the cab it leaves me open for viewing unless I close it off completely. Instead I have covered the windows with reflectix which is used to deflect the heat or cold, like insulation. and covered the reflectix with Indian fabric, still working on a way to get them to stay up and in place, the magnets aren’t working out yet But I have a plan, I’ll figure something out, meanwhile they are taped in place, and yes I covered the chair too but it’s not finished either. Love the fabric!
Good news, Robert was just here and solved two new problems for me. The light in my bathroom now works and he was able to re-ignite my hot water heater. It’s windy today, I hope the pilot doesn’t go out again. We may have to see why this happens is there a opening in the cabinet door to allow the wind in? We have a wind advisory, I just got a red flag warning in Caballo, where I am. Never heard of a red flag advisory. but the wind is shaking my RV and the chimes are active. Glad I’m not on the road in either my Smart babe or GIGI today.
Thanks to RV Face Book Groups my blog is being seen by hundreds of people either wanting to start to travel or are currently traveling in their RV. It is an unexpected pleasure to have my work seen by so many and the positive comments a surprise. I hope my notes are being read too, as I know that after the pictures are seen once and forgotten my words will still be here with comments on life as I travel or sit in place. As winter passes and the weather warms I will have more to say about this life style I’m loving in New Mexico..
Though Caballo Lake is a very small town, Truth or Consequences is 20 miles down the road with hot springs, art galleries, old mines and ghost towns to explore. As soon as I get my ‘smart car’ (next week)I will get out and about and be able to tell more stories. I’ve written about this nice place I’m camping at in other posts, I write camping only because I can’t think of a better description of this life style. If you know of another way to describe it let me know.
